KP 2019

1 – 31 December 2019

The fifth cycle of the KP Government Innovation Fellowship Program was officially launched on July 1st, 2019 and successfully concluded on December 31st, 2019. The theme for the 2019 cycle centered towards open data, community mobilization, digitization and easy access to public information.

During the fifth cycle, twenty fellows were selected to work on seven innovative solutions over six months to improve citizen-facing services and government service delivery. The Fellows worked out of Durshal, which is a community space developed by KPITB. The Fellowship program has been taking place at Durshal for the past 2 years. The KP Government Innovation Fellowship Program is implemented in partnership with the World Bank and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board - KPITB.

Solutions Developed:

Performance Management and Reforms Unit (PMRU)- An Open Data Portal was developed for the Performance Management & Reforms Unit - PMRU. Under PMRU’s recently launched Good Governance Strategy, there’s a move towards proactive disclosure of information to the public. Through the open data portal, government transparency indices will be introduced in order to ensure transparency in government processes while facilitating ease of doing business.

Chief Secretary Delivery Unit (CSDU)-The Chief Secretary Delivery Unit (CSDU) was created to support the Chief Secretary on high priority tasks to monitor the ongoing programs for the newly merged districts of FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.  A Monitoring & Evaluation System was developed by our Fellows for CSDU using G-Suite to monitor, track and expedite the progress of the projects in health, education and social departments in the newly merged districts of erstwhile FATA.

KP Provincial Assembly -An Online Streaming and Polling Portal was developed for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly. The request was initiated by the IT department in the KP Assembly to develop an online streaming portal that was developed in-house to reduce the expense of subscription costs associated with proprietary solutions. The Online Streaming solution developed by our Fellows is facilitating the department in lowering annual subscription and maintenance costs, and also enabling the department to keep video recordings of the live sessions on their databases.

Private Schools Regulatory Authority -An E-Registration portal was developed for the  KP Private Schools for Private Schools Regulatory Authority. The project facilitates the department in regularizing private schools and making it convenient for existing as well as new schools to register themselves with the department. A dashboard was developed for the department for easier management which offers different features, modules, and centralized notification systems to make the management more robust and streamlined.

E-Governance Initiatives of KPITB - A portal for Ease of Doing Business developed for the Directorate of Industries and Commerce to  foster an environment that helps create, grow and scale businesses in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. To facilitate new businesses to register with the Government, a team of Fellows was assigned to develop an online portal that will help entrepreneurs register their business quickly and without any hassle.

Local Government, Elections and Rural Development Department- A Public Toilet Finder Mobile App and Dashboard was developed for WatSan Cell, Local Government, Election and Rural Development Department. The app was developed to drive the campaign towards a Clean and Green KP Province. The Public Toilet Finder is a Mobile App, which can provide the location of Public & Private toilets in the KP Province. The App includes many useful features like finding the nearest toilet up-to 25 KM radius, showing nearby toilets on the home screen, the ability to rate & review public toilets for action by government to improve the services, and the ability to search for toilets based on Filters such as Male/Female and accessibility based toilets. The app was launched on November 19th, marking the World Toilet Day 2019.

Augmented Reality Based Indoor Navigation System for Public Hospitals- Another innovative and community-focused project developed under the Fellowship Program was Rah-E-Sukoon, an Augmented Reality Based Indoor Navigation System for Hospitals. The app lets users navigate the Hospitals of KP by using their smartphone cameras. The app gives turn by turn direction so that patients can easily navigate the hospital, reaching the clinic or lab on time.
