About Code for Pakistan

Code for Pakistan (CfP) is a civic innovation nonprofit that builds public interest technology and fosters inclusive citizen participation. Through a human-centered design process, we empower people to co-create digital solutions that address local challenges, make government more responsive, and create lasting social impact.

Our community of changemakers, technologists, designers, and researchers — across Pakistan and the diaspora — believes that technology, when shaped by the people it serves, can be a powerful force for the public good.

Over the past decade, CfP has completed eight cycles of its flagship Civic Innovation Fellowship Program, introduced Pakistan’s first Women’s Civic Digital Internship Program, and organized dozens of civic hackathons, Guftugus, Civic Innovation Labs, and community events nationwide. CfP is a registered nonprofit in both Pakistan and the US, and an active member of the global Code for All network.

The Role

Open-source disaster management toolkit for Pakistan. Real-time crowdsourcing, geospatial visualization, early warning systems. Civic tech that saves lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the entire technical stack - frontend, backend, mobile, DevOps
  • Integrate open-source platforms (Ushahidi, Sahana Eden) with custom features
  • Build core systems: real-time data collection, GIS mapping, SMS/WhatsApp alerts
  • Deploy & scale on cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP)
  • Use AI extensively - Claude, Cursor, Copilot for 10x productivity
  • Ship fast - MVP in 3-6 months, iterate based on real user feedback

Experience & Qualifications

  • 5+ years software engineering (any stack, we care about fundamentals)
  • Built and deployed production systems end-to-end
  • Comfortable with: Node.js/Python, React, PostgreSQL/MongoDB, Docker, REST APIs
  • Experience with geospatial/mapping tools (Leaflet, Mapbox, Google Maps)
  • Cloud deployment experience (AWS/GCP/Azure)
  • Strong English communication (documentation, async collaboration)
