Basic human rights are a fundamental tenet of a functioning society, but violations are often unreported and left unaddressed. Abductions, arbitrary arrests, and detentions without trial are common occurrences in the global South. Such extreme violations of human rights not only cause immense suffering but also hinder reconciliation and peace-building efforts.
To empower the public in reporting human rights violations, a Fellowship team under the 3rd Fellowship cycle collaborated with the Directorate of Human Rights to develop a mobile-based reporting system. Through this application, individuals could file complaints with the department, providing detailed information about any instances of human rights violations they have witnessed or experienced. These complaints were then forwarded to the department for further action.
Furthermore, the app allowed the department to conduct awareness campaigns and share updates with the public, fostering a culture of human rights awareness and accountability.
