A New Mom. A Long Journey. A Life-Changing Internship

When Osmia, a computer science graduate from Malakand University, came to Peshawar to deliver her baby, she didn’t expect to stumble upon a Facebook post that would change her life.

KP Women’s Civic Digital Internship Program—a program built for women like her, navigating the challenges of geography, motherhood, and limited access to opportunities in tech.

Against all odds, Osmia applied. She got selected. And with her husband and 2-month-old son Azlaan by her side, she took an 8-hour journey to attend the program’s first event.

In the months that followed, Osmia not only upskilled in Graphic Design and UI/UX, but also began mentoring other girls in her village.

“I learned more in six months than I did in my entire master’s program.”

This is what civic tech looks like when it meets people where they are—and gives them the tools to thrive.
