This month, we're spotlighting civic tech projects that go beyond innovation.

These initiatives are grounded in collaboration—fostering real relationships between governments, communities, and citizens. Together, they're using technology to rebuild trust, increase transparency, and deliver meaningful impact.

Reimagining NGO Registration: A Digital Leap for Social Welfare

Imagine launching a non-profit to serve your community — only to face weeks or even months of delays due to a slow, manual registration process.

This has been the reality for thousands of applicants navigating NGO registration through the Social Welfare Department, where paper-based workflows have created bottlenecks and uncertainty.

To improve citizen-facing services, the Social Welfare Department partnered with our KP Government Innovation Fellowship team — a program run in collaboration with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Technology Board to ensure smoother public service delivery.

What This Means for NGOs:

  • Apply online — no more repeated office visits
  • Get real-time updates on your application status
  • Enjoy a faster, more transparent experience

By addressing the department's pain points, we’re not just saving government hours — we’re restoring confidence in public services.

Smarter Cities, Cleaner Communities: Revolutionizing Waste Management with IoT

In cities like Peshawar, overflowing bins and missed collections aren’t just an inconvenience — they’re a public health risk. Without real-time data, planning is difficult, and timely response from the relevant government department becomes even more challenging.

Recognizing this, a team of final-year university students from our Civic Innovator Program (CIP) are working closely with the Water & Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) to deploy IoT sensors across bins and waste collection vehicles.

How CIP is changing that:

  • Live data to streamline routes and monitor waste levels
  • Smarter routing that cuts fuel use and operational costs
  • Real-time insights that boost service accountability

We’re one step closer to a cleaner, healthier city through responsive governance. Drop us an email at innovator@codeforpakistan.org if you would like to learn more!

Why Trust is the Technology We Need Most

True innovation isn’t just about code — it’s about connection. Each of these projects shares a common thread:

  • They help rebuild trust where it's been worn thin.
  • They create systems people can rely on.
  • They show what’s possible when governments work with citizens, not just for them.

Donate Now and help build a stronger, more innovative future.

As we look ahead, let’s keep building a future where governance is open, digital, and truly citizen-led.

With deep gratitude,
